An Ambitious Curriculum for Every Future Brentford Girl

Our curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge and empower every student to become a confident, knowledgeable and successful young woman. At Brentford School for Girls, we believe that education should open doors, broaden horizons and equip students with the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Everything we do is guided by our vision of the "Future Brentford Girl": a young woman who is academically successful, intellectually curious, socially responsible and prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

We have carefully designed a knowledge-rich curriculum that enables students to develop deep subject understanding whilst fostering creativity, resilience, critical thinking and independence. Through a broad and balanced educational experience, students gain both the qualifications and personal qualities needed to succeed in higher education, employment and beyond.

Our Key Stage 3 Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum aims to:

  • Develop strong literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Build secure knowledge through carefully sequenced learning.

  • Encourage curiosity, creativity and independent thinking.

  • Celebrate diversity and promote inclusion.

  • Prepare students for successful progression into Key Stage 4 and beyond.

  • Ensure every student develops the confidence to contribute positively to their community and society.

Key Stage 4: Pathways to Success (Years 9-11)

Students begin Key Stage 4 in Year 9, providing three years to deepen subject knowledge and prepare for GCSE success. This extended Key Stage 4 model allows students greater time to master content, strengthen examination skills and explore subjects that align with their interests, talents and future aspirations. This approach enables students to:

  • Explore subjects in greater depth.

  • Build and retain knowledge over time.

  • Strengthen key skills through regular practice and retrieval.

  • Receive targeted support to address misconceptions.

  • Engage in enrichment, challenge and independent learning opportunities.

  • Develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning.

By spreading GCSE study across three years, students have the time to secure their understanding, make meaningful connections between topics and develop mastery of the curriculum. This helps reduce the pressures often associated with a more compressed two-year GCSE programme, whilst ensuring students are fully prepared for examinations and their next steps in education.

The additional time also allows students to participate in a wide range of enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom

Education continues to evolve and, as a school committed to excellence, we continually review and refine our curriculum to ensure it remains ambitious, relevant and responsive to students' needs.

With the anticipated introduction of a revised National Curriculum from 2027, Brentford School for Girls is committed to engaging fully with national developments and educational research. School leaders will work closely with subject specialists, educational partners and our wider school community to ensure that any future curriculum reforms are carefully planned and effectively embedded.

Our approach will focus on:

  • Maintaining high academic standards.

  • Preserving breadth and ambition across all subjects.

  • Ensuring curriculum content remains relevant to the changing world.

  • Strengthening literacy, numeracy and digital skills.

  • Supporting inclusive curriculum design that enables all learners to thrive.

  • Providing excellent preparation for higher education, employment and active citizenship.

Through careful planning and ongoing professional development, we will ensure our curriculum continues to prepare students successfully for the future.

Beyond the Classroom

Learning at Brentford School for Girls extends far beyond lessons. Through enrichment opportunities, educational visits, clubs, leadership programmes, careers education and wider personal development experiences, students are encouraged to discover new interests, develop talents and contribute positively to society.

These experiences play a vital role in helping students become confident, compassionate and successful young women who are ready to make a positive difference in the world.
