Wellbeing and pastoral support
Safeguarding is built into school life, not kept in a separate box. Every student has a trusted adult to turn to, and pastoral care is there for everyone, not just students in difficulty.
- Know who to ask. Safeguarding contacts are in student planners and on posters around school, and students are reminded regularly of the different ways they can get help. Your daughter’s form tutor should be the first point of contact
- Pastoral team. Form tutors and heads of year know their students well and are usually the first to notice when something changes. Where a student needs more support, we can arrange mentors, school-based counsellors and links to specialist services.
- The personal development curriculum. PSHE lessons, assemblies, form time and visiting speakers build knowledge of healthy relationships, mental health, consent, online safety and where to get help.
- Early help. When a family is struggling, we can help them reach support services early, before difficulties become a crisis.
- Student voice. Student councils and leadership roles give young people a say in how the school keeps them safe and well.
If your child is struggling to attend school because of worry or low mood, please tell us early. We would rather work out a plan together than wait.
A safe school and trusted staff
Safer recruitment. To promote a safe environment for students our Safer Recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers suitability, including Disclosure and Barring Service checks, in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026 legislation.
Training. All staff receive safeguarding and child protection training when they join as part of their induction, annual refresher and regular updates during the year, and as part of the KCSIE 2026, all staff are expected to read Part 1 of the guidance. The safeguarding team has additional specialist training.
Visitors. Visitors report to reception, show identification, sign in and wear a badge, and are escorted around the site if they do not comply with the necessary checks needed to be on the school site.
Attendance. We follow up absences promptly, and we act on children who are missing from education, because a change in attendance can be an early warning sign.
Oversight. A governor with responsibility for safeguarding holds the school to account, and safeguarding leads meet regularly to review local and national issues that may affect students.
