Somerville College Roadshow

Students from University of Oxford visit our High Achievers

On Monday 13th March selected Year 11 students joined our Year 12 ‘Newnham Group’ students, for an aspirational talk from Ambassadors from Somerville College, University of Oxford.

Nandana, the Undergraduate Access and Admissions Officer was joined by Ambassadors, Thuvu and Chloe, and delivered an interactive presentation about life at university. The presenters then challenged students to consider university admissions interview questions. Students worked in small groups to share their historical, political and social knowledge in order to give cracking answers to the poser: What could we infer if the only records that survived were sports achievements? The Somerville Roadshow aims to dispel myths and stereotypes surrounding Oxford and Cambridge universities, that put many talented and enthusiastic students off applying there. It’s aim is to widen access to Oxford, Cambridge and Higher Education in general and we hope the students took that message away with them. Maryam Bhatti of Year 12 certainly did, she says: “Talking to the current students made it seem less intimidating”.
