On Tuesday 9th June, students from Brentford School for Girls took part in two inspiring educational visits: the Old Operating Theatre and Kew Gardens. Both trips gave students the chance to build on their classroom learning through hands-on experiences in memorable settings.
The Year 9 visit to the Old Operating Theatre gave students a fascinating insight into the history of medicine. As they explored the oldest surviving surgical theatre in Europe, they saw how medical treatment has changed over time and reflected on the progress made in healthcare. The experience brought their humanities learning to life and prompted thoughtful discussion about discovery, innovation, and the people behind medical change.
Biology students also enjoyed an engaging visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where they explored plant life, ecosystems, and conservation in a real-world setting. The trip helped students deepen their understanding of key scientific ideas while also encouraging a greater appreciation for biodiversity and the natural world.
These visits reflect Brentford School for Girls’ commitment to learning beyond the classroom. Through these experiences, students developed knowledge, curiosity, and confidence while broadening their horizons in meaningful ways.
A head of department said: "Trips like these help students connect with their learning in a real and memorable way. It is always rewarding to see their confidence grow as they explore new ideas beyond the classroom."
School staff and student contributors also gathered notes, reflections, and photographs from the visits, helping to capture the enthusiasm and sense of achievement that defined the experience.
A student said: "The visits made what we have been learning in class feel real and exciting. It was amazing to see history and science come to life in such different ways, and it made me even more interested in both subjects."
Brentford School for Girls continues to create opportunities that make learning meaningful, enjoyable, and relevant. Parents and members of the local community are also warmly invited to attend the School’s upcoming Arts Festival and celebrate the creativity, talent, and achievements of Brentford students.
