Science and technology shape the world around us. For young women to lead in these fields, they need spaces that nurture their curiosity and build their confidence. Brentford School for Girls (BSfG) actively champions this vision. The school provides students with the tools and opportunities they need to break barriers and excel in STEM subjects.
Through a variety of engaging events and global partnerships, BSfG students explore their potential as scientists, innovators, and leaders.
Exploring innovations during British Science Week
Curiosity is the foundation of all great scientific discoveries. This year, British Science Week, which ran from 6th-15th March, focused on the theme of asking questions and seeking answers. To bring this theme to life, the science department organised an exciting series of events.
Between 10th-13th March, students in Years 7 through 10 visited the Science Museum in London. These trips allowed students to step outside the classroom and immerse themselves in interactive exhibitions. By exploring past scientific breakthroughs and future innovations, young women can see themselves as part of the next generation of problem solvers.
Championing equality during Women’s Week
Success in STEM requires more than just academic knowledge. It requires the confidence to challenge expectations. Leading up to International Women’s Day, the school hosted a dedicated Women’s Week starting on 2nd March.
Throughout the week, students heard from external speakers and visited fair stalls hosted by organisations that tackle important women’s issues. These activities sparked meaningful conversations about equality. They broadened horizons and showed students exactly what is possible when women support each other and pursue their ambitions.
A global commitment to girls’ education
Brentford School for Girls goes beyond local events to advocate for female empowerment on a global scale. As a member of The International Coalition of Girls Schools, the school connects with educational institutions across the United States, Australia, and the UK.
Currently, the school is taking part in a major research project with Columbia University. This project studies the deep benefits of girls’ education worldwide. By participating in this research, the school helps highlight why dedicated spaces for young women are so vital for their development.
From exciting science trips to inspiring campus events, Brentford School for Girls ensures that every student has the support to pursue her passions. By fostering a love for STEM and a strong sense of equality, the school prepares young women to do amazing things in their future careers.
