Brentford School for Girls is always seeking opportunities to inspire and empower its young people. Last month, several Year 11 students from the school participated in the launch of the Languages for All initiative which took place on Royal Holloway’s stunning campus. This outstanding programme is designed to identify the linguists in the borough and to encourage them to consider pursuing their language at A-level.
The Languages for All initiative focuses on building confidence, supporting their speaking skills and unlocking exciting career opportunities. Through a combination of educational trips, careers events, and academic support, the programme fosters a vibrant community of future linguists who share a passion for languages and culture.
A notable aspect of this initiative is its commitment to overcoming barriers that might otherwise prevent students from pursuing language studies. By addressing challenges such as financial constraints and changing attitudes towards language learning, Languages for All promotes equal access for students in state schools. It equips young people with essential skills for success in an increasingly global job market where multilingualism is highly valued.
Languages for All Manifesto: Languages open minds and open doors
The success of the Languages For All model even appears in the government’s response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review: “We will learn from approaches such as the ‘Languages for All’ programme which has increased the number of students studying modern languages at A-level in Hounslow.’’ Further information about the programme is available at languagesforall.org
Brentford School for Girls is proud to work in collaboration with Royal Holloway and other schools from Hounslow borough to identify and nurture the next generation of linguists. Programmes like this enrich students’ academic journeys and broaden their horizons, helping them see the world—and their place in it—from a new perspective.
Christelle Charbonnier, Head of MFL at Brentford School for Girls, said: “Learning a language is not just about grammar and vocabulary—it’s also about understanding other cultures, making connections, and discovering new ways to see the world. We are thrilled our students have this opportunity and proud of their commitment to becoming global citizens.”
The school champions the power of languages to connect people, cultures, and ideas. Initiatives such as Languages for All underscore the importance of fostering these connections and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The students who participated in this programme have demonstrated remarkable dedication and enthusiasm, serving as a testament to the bright future of language learning. Brentford School for Girls looks forward to many more opportunities to celebrate the transformative power of languages and the extraordinary young people who embrace them.
