Brentford School for Girls (BSfG) proudly celebrated an exciting day for women’s sport as twelve of their students took to the pitch at the first-ever Women’s World Club Championships at Brentford FC.
Students ranging from Year 7 to Year 10 were chosen to be official flag carriers at the semi-final matches. This experience showed BSfG’s commitment to giving girls the chance to be part of major sports events and to supporting the growing popularity of women and girls in football.
The atmosphere was unforgettable as the students stood beside some of the best players in the world, including those from the mighty Arsenal squad.
Paul May, Assistant Head at BSFG said: ‘‘This was an amazing opportunity for our students to be part of football history - especially with this being the inaugural tournament. Being flag carriers on such a big stage gave them a glimpse of what’s possible and showed how far women’s football has come. We want our girls to see that the sport is open to them and that they can aspire to any role, whether that’s on the pitch or behind the scenes. It’s about empowering them through experience and showing them that there are no limits to what they can achieve.’’
Alongside their main role, the students enjoyed watching Gotham FC face Corinthians in a midday match. And the current European Champions, Arsenal take on AS FAR in their semi-final matches. In addition to the flag carriers, the school also arranged to take a further thirty students to watch the midday game.
For many years, football was seen as a sport mostly for men and boys. Opportunities for women were limited, and girls rarely got the chance to take part. But today, things are changing fast. As part of the school’s vision of the ‘Future Brentford Girl’, showing the students that the sky is the limit is important to show them how the world has changed and their part in changing for the future.
At BSfG, encouraging girls in sport is a big part of school life. As the school’s vision says, ‘‘Our drive at Brentford is to nurture the young woman of our vision, a vision that we hope you will share. As well as academic excellence, your daughter will be encouraged to develop her wider social and personal skills.’’
By supporting girls’ sports at every level, BSfG is helping break barriers and giving students confidence to chase their dreams—both on and off the pitch.
Moments like this championship are more than just a fun day out. They send a strong message: football is for everyone. BSfG is proud to support equality in sport and to help create a future where girls and women are front and centre in the game.
Brentford School for Girls is a lively and supportive school where every student’s potential is valued. The school focuses on academic achievement and personal growth, helping young women become confident, ambitious, and successful leaders.
