Last week, Brentford School for Girls hosted a heartwarming Rewards & Recognition event to celebrate the incredible achievements of their Year 11 students. The event, held just before the Sixth Form Open Evening, was a vibrant mix of fun, food, and festivities, designed to honour not only academic excellence but also the character, kindness, and commitment of the students.
The celebration began with a lively quiz and delicious food in the canteen, accompanied by music that set the tone for the evening. Students then gathered in the hall, joined by their proud parents, for the Recognition Awards ceremony. The event highlighted the diverse talents and dedication of the Year 11 cohort, with awards presented to those who have truly shone in their journey at Brentford.
Executive Headteacher Marais Leenders shared her pride, saying, ‘‘Our Year 11 students embody the values we hold dear at Brentford. Their hard work, resilience, and kindness inspire us all. This event is a testament to their achievements and the bright futures that lie ahead.’’
Brentford’s role in international girls’ education study
In other exciting news, Brentford School for Girls is set to participate in a groundbreaking year-long study on girls’ education. Marais and Emma Downton recently attended the International Girls’ School Conference in London, where they engaged with inspiring speakers and workshops focused on the unique benefits of girls’ schools.
The study, conducted in collaboration with Columbia University and William & Mary University, will explore how organisational culture in girls’ schools influences student success, staff engagement, and overall performance. Brentford School for Girls is one of 20 schools across the UK, both state and independent, selected for this prestigious research. Reflecting on the opportunity, Emma remarked, ‘‘Being part of this study is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the global conversation on girls’ education. It’s a chance to showcase the incredible work happening at Brentford and to learn from other schools facing similar challenges. Together, we can shape a brighter future for girls everywhere.’’
With these achievements and initiatives, Brentford School for Girls continues to shine as a beacon of excellence, nurturing young women to thrive in an ever-changing world.
