Frequently Asked Questions

What are the headteachers values for the school?

Brentford School for Girls is a high performing, state girls’ school in the Borough of Hounslow, bordering the Boroughs of Ealing, Hillingdon, Richmond, Hammersmith and Fulham.  We are hugely proud of our comprehensive intake, with our girls achieving year-on-year success at both GCSE and A level.  As well as achieving outstanding academic results, the schools’ aim is to ensure that all of our girls develop into confident, ambitious and resilient young women who are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of a fast-paced and changing world.

what makes your school different from other local secondary schools?

Every girl is seen, valued, celebrated and nurtured – this permeates throughout the school’s ethos and values. We understand that every child is unique. Our pastoral support system is excellent and a key priority for us is to ensure that all our students are happy and therefore able to perform to the best of their abilities.  We will ensure that all students have the opportunity to explore their talents through the STEM curriculum, the arts, debating and sports and more. The endless opportunities the school provides for extra-curricular activities, as well as the many leadership events and opportunities on offer, all provide a platform to support the development of highly aspirational, confident, well-balanced and successful young women.

what is the school's catchment area?

Brentford School for Girls is a truly inclusive secondary school, welcoming applicants from in and outside the local authority.  Our current Year 7 cohort includes students who attended Primary schools in Hounslow, Ealing, Chiswick and Kew and beyond. There are excellent bus and train routes, making the school easily accessible to all. Please click here for admissions information.

what is the size of the school and how many year 7 classes will there be?

We are a small school with a strong sense of community, where every student is known on an individual basis. We currently have just under 800 students on roll. There are four form groups in year 7.

what facilities do you have on-site?

The facilities at Brentford School for Girls are excellent. Our girls benefit from 2 large indoor gym facilities, a new, all-weather outdoor sports field, dedicated outdoor netball courts, fully equipped and staffed library resource, state-of-the art theatre, dedicated ICT suites, art and photographic studios, large canteen and catering facilities for food requirements at break time and lunchtime, lots of outdoor space with picnic tables for recreational break time and lunchtime.

are classes set by ability?

In Year 7, Maths is set based on ability. Individual progress is monitored and programmes are put in place to ensure that the most able students are challenged appropriately and the necessary levels of support and intervention are in place to support all of our students.

how does the school communicate with parents?

Communication is key and we strive to ensure we keep very close communication links with parents so you are informed and involved as a part of our Brentford School community. Parents will receive three data reports across the school year, in relation to your daughter’s progress. There is an opportunity to discuss your daughter's progress at parents' evening, at one of our parent events (such as our ‘Meet the Tutor’ event at the start of Year 7), or by speaking to your daughter’s Form Tutor or Head of Year via email or phone.  Our website and social media channels regularly share updates in relation to school events and news.

To keep you informed of events in the school, a half-termly bulletin is sent to parents to highlight what is planned for the following half-term and a termly "Highlights" magazine is sent home that shows what has been going on in school the previous term.

do you provide before and after school care?

We have an extra-curricular timetable where students can sign up to a range of different activities before and after school. Please click here to access the sample timetable.
All students are able to access a free breakfast club/homework club from 8am each day.
