Brentford school relaunches pre-loved uniform sale

Brentford School for Girls (BSfG) has announced the relaunch of its innovative pre-loved uniform initiative, offering families in the community a budget-friendly and eco-conscious way to outfit their students for the school year ahead. This forward-thinking programme underscores the school’s ‘Go Green’ ethos, uniting students, parents, and staff in a collective effort to minimise waste while fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.

By breathing new life into pre-owned uniforms, this initiative provides families with a practical and sustainable option for school attire. Cleaned and carefully prepared, these items are offered at impressively low prices: shirts for £2, skirts and trousers/skirts for £10, jumpers and cardigans for £10, blazers for £10 and PE items from £5.00. This thoughtful approach not only eases the financial burden on parents but also extends the lifespan of quality clothing, turning every purchase into a step toward affordability and sustainability.

‘‘Our pre-loved uniform initiative is a win for everyone,’’ explained Melanie Baldy, BSfG Business Manager. ‘‘Parents can significantly cut back on yearly school uniform expenses, while the funds raised are channelled into essential educational resources. It’s a practical solution that benefits families and strengthens our school community.’’

This initiative does more than just lighten the financial load for families—it actively fosters a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within the school. ‘‘Having a consistent uniform for all students helps create a sense of belonging and equality, ensuring that no one feels set apart due to their financial circumstances,’’ shared Baldy.

Students also play an important role in the programme, actively contributing by collecting and preparing donated uniforms for resale. Joanne Davies, BSfG Wellbeing Officer, emphasised the lasting influence this has on their development. ‘‘Taking part in this initiative gives our students hands-on experience in building a stronger, more thoughtful community. They learn the value of giving back, reduce waste, and gain an understanding of how small actions, like reusing clothing, can have a big impact on both people and the planet.’’

Each donated uniform becomes a step toward a greener and more unified community. Families looking to contribute gently used uniforms or purchase affordable school attire for the upcoming term are wholeheartedly encouraged to connect with the school office. ‘‘By coming together, we can create lasting change—for our students, for our community, and for the environment we all share,’’ the school notes.

The next uniform sale will be on Tuesday 6th October at 3.45pm in the Main Hall. Both cash and card payments will be accepted. Thanks to the generosity of the year 11 parents/ carers who have just left the school, there is plenty of stock on all items. To contribute to this impactful initiative, please reach out to Joanne Davies via jdavies@brentford.hounslow.sch.uk
