Brentford School for Girls (BSfG) marked the start of the 2026-2027 academic year with a series of welcome events built on community and belonging. Year 7 students returned for their Induction Day on Friday 4th September, followed by Year 12’s Induction Day and a staggered start for Years 8 through 11 on Monday 7th September. Behind the scenes, the school's own families played a direct role in shaping how staff prepared to support every student this year.

For the school’s newest students, Induction Day offered a first glimpse of secondary school life. Girls met their tutors, toured the campus and began forming friendships, supported throughout by staff members offering encouragement and guidance.

‘‘Seeing our new Year 7s walk in for the first time is one of the best days of the year,’’ said Miss Downton, Head of Transition. ‘‘We want every girl to know, from her very first moment here, that she belongs.’’

That same week, Year 12 students began their own Induction Day as they stepped into Sixth Form, while a staggered return for Years 8 to 11 gave each group time to reconnect with classmates and settle back into the rhythm of school life.

What set this year’s preparations apart was the depth of community involvement behind the scenes. Ahead of the term, two BSfG parents, including Rina Modi, delivered a staff presentation titled ‘Introduction to Trauma Informed Approach’. The session introduced staff to the principles of trauma-informed practice and explored how this approach helps create a learning environment that responds to the needs of every student. Staff left with practical strategies designed to improve student engagement, encourage learning, and foster a safe, supportive atmosphere for growth.

The initiative reflected a broader truth at the heart of BSfG: the school’s strength comes as much from its families as it does from its staff. By drawing on the expertise within its own community, the school entered the new year excited about how we can best support every girl who walked through its doors.

‘‘A great year begins with a great welcome,’’ said Marais Leenders, Executive Head of BSfG. ‘‘When our students feel seen, supported, and celebrated, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.’’

As the new term got underway, Brentford School for Girls continued to build a school community shaped by its families, staff, and students alike.
