Brentford School for Girls is celebrating a season of exceptional sporting achievements, highlighted by a recent and thrilling victory at the Y10/11 Super 8 Athletics competition. Held at Osterley Park, the event saw students from Year 11, Year 10, and Year 9 secure the top spot in a display of remarkable athletic talent. This sweeping success is just one part of a phenomenal term for the physical education department, reflecting the deep commitment and teamwork of the entire student body.
The students brought incredible energy to the track and field, representing their school with immense determination and pride. Their hard work during training sessions translated into a series of brilliant performances, proving that dedication truly pays off. The school community is incredibly proud of how these young athletes supported one another, embodying the spirit of collaboration and resilience.
Alice Ward, Head of Physical Education and Extra-Curricular at the school, shared her excitement: “We are absolutely thrilled with our students for winning the Super 8 Athletics competition at Osterley Park. The effort and teamwork they showed was just brilliant—it’s exactly what PE at Brentford is all about. I’m so proud of them for giving it their all and representing the school with such determination and spirit. Well done to everyone involved—you really deserve this!”
The athletics win adds to a growing list of unstoppable successes across multiple sports this year. On the netball court, the school has seen unprecedented victories. The Year 8, Year 9, and Senior netball teams all finished their seasons as undefeated league champions. The Year 7 team also claimed the East of the Borough League title, while the Year 10 team finished a highly commendable second in their respective league.
These triumphs continue into basketball and football. The Year 7 basketball team delivered a phenomenal performance at a recent tournament, securing both first and second place in a fantastic display of skill. Meanwhile, the school footballers have defined their season through steady growth, resilience, and an unbroken team spirit, dominating the pitch with outstanding match results.
Beyond local leagues, Brentford School for Girls students recently stepped onto a truly global stage. Twelve pupils were selected to serve as official flag bearers for the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup at Brentford Football Club. Representing their school with pride, the girls took to the pitch during high-profile matches featuring Gotham FC, SC Corinthians, Arsenal Women FC, and ASFAR.
Adding to the excitement, Brentford FC first-team player Josh Dasilva visited the school at the end of March. He engaged with students in a fun and interactive quiz about Brentford FC, followed by a pizza event with selected members of the school football teams. This unique opportunity allowed students to connect with a professional athlete, further inspiring their passion for football and teamwork.
Opportunities like these provide students with a platform offering a firsthand glimpse into the excitement and professionalism of international-level sports. By witnessing professional athletes in action and participating in such a major event, students expand their horizons and are inspired to set ambitious goals for themselves. These experiences often spark a lifelong passion for sport and reinforce the idea that, with dedication and determination, they too can achieve remarkable success.
In addition, none of these enriching experiences would be possible without the dedication of the staff and PE department, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to organise and run these outstanding extra-curricular events. Their enthusiasm and commitment give students access to opportunities beyond the classroom, nurturing confidence, teamwork, responsibility, and pride in representing both self and school. These activities help build essential social skills, spark ambition, and create lasting memories. Experiences like these truly demonstrate the breadth of enrichment offered at BSfG, supporting young women as they grow into confident, well-rounded individuals, fully prepared to embrace new challenges.
All of these achievements are a perfect reflection of the Brentford Girl vision. The school strives to nurture confident, ambitious, and well-rounded young women who are ready to excel in a changing world. Through sports, these students are learning to lead, support their peers, and tackle challenges with courage. They are proving that when girls are given a supportive environment to thrive, they can accomplish truly great things.
