This December, the magic of music and the warmth of community spirit come together at the Kew Sinfonia Charity Christmas Concert, featuring the talented Brentford School for Girls Singers. The uplifting event will be held on Sunday, 14th December at 5pm at St. Paul’s Church, Grove Park, Chiswick.
The evening promises joy for the whole family, with a sparkling line-up of festive classics. Audience members can look forward to highlights like Howard Blake’s beloved The Snowman, iconic selections from John Williams’ Home Alone, and a medley of traditional carols and festive works by Johann Strauss, Handel, and Leroy Anderson. Whether you’re a lifelong music lover or searching for a dose of Christmas cheer, this concert is sure to leave you smiling.
This year’s concert is a true celebration of partnership and community talent. The Brentford School for Girls Singers, under the direction of Head of Music Kate Martin, will join the Kew Sinfonia’s renowned orchestra for an unforgettable choral collaboration. Joining forces with professional musicians gives students a once-in-a-lifetime platform to share their passion and dedication for music with the local community.
At Brentford School for Girls (BSfG), musical learning is a journey that grows with each year. In Year 7, students build the foundations—learning music theory, developing ensemble skills, and discovering what music means to them. As they move through the school, they explore genres such as blues, film, and world music, gain experience composing and performing, and ultimately emerge in Year 11 as confident musicians ready for any stage—inside or outside school.
Meet the Head of Music: Kate Martin
Guiding this musical adventure is Kate Martin, Head of Music at BSfG and Choir Director for the concert. A graduate of the University of Cambridge with a MA in Music, Kate’s passion infuses every note, inspiring students not just to play, but to truly love music. Her energy and leadership have created a thriving, inclusive department where every student’s talent is nurtured, and everyone is welcomed into the world of music.
Benefits of learning music
Taking part in music during secondary school has proven benefits—boosting mental health, lowering stress, and sharpening memory, coordination, and creativity. At BSfG, music isn’t simply a subject; it’s a way for students to grow as individuals and as a team. These experiences also open doors beyond school, supporting career ambitions in the arts, education, therapy, technology, and more. The confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills developed through music are assets students will carry for a lifetime.
Most importantly, this heartwarming concert supports a vital cause. All proceeds will help Embrace the Middle East, a charity committed to transforming lives and communities facing hardship and injustice.
