Brentford Sixth Form proudly highlights its innovative work experience programme, a distinctive feature of its Year 12 enrichment curriculum. This initiative offers students the chance to gain valuable real-world skills while exploring potential career paths that align with their individual interests and ambitions.
The programme includes a wide range of placements, from classroom support at Worple Primary School to creative opportunities on the Sixth Form Press Team. Through these experiences, students are able to step beyond traditional classroom learning and develop critical skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—all essential for their future personal and professional growth.
“At Worple Primary School, I’ve been able to assist with lessons and learn the importance of creating a positive environment for children,” said Ulani, a Year 12 student. “This opportunity has improved my communication skills, given me insight into early-years education, and even strengthened my personal statement for future opportunities.”
The Sixth Form Press Team represents another enriching component of the programme. By engaging in activities such as article writing, graphic design, and social media management, students enhance their organisational and time management skills while contributing to the school’s online presence. Recently, the Press Team showcased their creativity through the ‘Stir It Up’ initiative, where they documented a series of healthy cooking workshops and shared highlights on Brentford Sixth Form’s social media platforms.
Ulani and Sinead, Brentford 6th Form students, completed a one-week Marketing/Media work experience placement with Mrs. Morin, Marketing/Media at Brentford School for Girls. Throughout the week, they were immersed in a range of creative and hands-on activities, gaining practical insights into the world of marketing and media.
In addition to the structured placements offered through the programme, the majority of students took the initiative to independently secure ambitious work experience opportunities that reflected their career aspirations. From placements in law firms and local pharmacies to roles within engineering companies, accountancy practices, and thriving small businesses, students demonstrated remarkable drive and professionalism. These self-sourced placements not only expanded students’ exposure to a range of industries but also powerfully reflected Ms G.Agnihotri’s vision as Head of Sixth Form—to cultivate independence, ambition, and readiness for the real world.
Here’s a glimpse of the impact it had:
“Personally, this experience boosted my confidence, improved my communication and organisation, and made me feel proud to contribute to something real.”– Ulani, Brentford 6th Form student
“This week has really sparked my interest in marketing, and I’m excited to keep learning and exploring this.” – Sinead, Brentford 6th Form student
“The unexpected relationships I made with the people who work in the reception as well as the volunteers, I also enjoyed understanding the importance of confidence and communication” – Anamika, Brentford Sixth Form student
“The experience gave me a clearer insight into both the pharmacy profession and the working environment. I found the tasks enjoyable, even when they were challenging, and appreciated the opportunity to work as part of a team. Before this placement, I was uncertain about pursuing pharmacy, but it has now confirmed my interest in following it as a future career.” – Karishma, Brentford Sixth Form student
“I liked the complexity of the project. I really enjoyed the theoretical maths being used in real life. I also found it incredibly interesting to learn about all the machines that were used.” (Engineering company) – Eva, Brentford Sixth Form student
“As I plan to go into the legal industry, I felt like this has helped me significantly when working with people in high pressure environments.” – Alisha, Brentford Sixth Form student
It’s always uplifting to see how these opportunities shape young minds and empower them for the future! By stepping outside their comfort zones, students are empowered to take ownership of their development and make informed decisions about their future.
Brentford Sixth Form remains committed to providing meaningful and impactful experiences that prepare students to succeed in professional environments.
