Brentford School for Girls (BSfG) opened its doors on Wednesday 18th June to welcome Year 6 students and their families for an engaging evening of taster sessions and a parent-focused event. This annual tradition is a cornerstone of the school’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and confident transition for students as they prepare to embark on their secondary school journey.
A warm welcome for future students
The event began at 4:30pm, with Year 6 students arriving at the school’s Astro pitch, where they were greeted by enthusiastic Year 10 volunteers and staff. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students signed in and prepared for their first taste of secondary school life.
Divided into small groups, the students were guided to a variety of taster sessions, including Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), PE, Food Technology, Textiles, Drama, and Music. These sessions offered a glimpse into the diverse and enriching curriculum that Brentford School for Girls provides. The dedication of the staff and Year 10 volunteers shone through, as they worked tirelessly to make the activities both fun and informative for the young visitors.
An informative evening for parents
While the students explored their sessions, parents were invited to browse a pre-loved uniform sale in the Heart and enjoy refreshments in the hall. At 4:45pm, the parent event talk commenced, offering an in-depth look at the school’s ethos, curriculum, and support systems. This session aimed to equip parents with the knowledge and confidence needed to support their child’s transition to secondary school.
Building connections and community
The evening concluded at 5:40pm, as Year 10 helpers reunited the Year 6 students with their parents in the hall. The event was a resounding success, fostering connections, excitement, and a sense of belonging among students and families alike. It was a true reflection of Brentford School for Girls’ dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive community.
A message from the executive headteacher
Executive Headteacher, Mrs. Leenders, shared her thoughts on the event: “We pride ourselves on providing our girls and young women with an excellent quality of education, as well as the opportunity to develop the broader skills required to be successful in a dynamic and changing world. All girls are welcomed and valued at our school.”
Looking ahead
Brentford School for Girls expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff, Year 10 volunteers, and parents who contributed to the success of the evening. The school eagerly anticipates welcoming the new Year 7 cohort in September 2025, as they begin their journey in a nurturing and inspiring environment.
