School Catering

Our canteen serves healthy, freshly cooked meals every day and is run in-house by our Catering Manager Mrs Ouleye Mason and her team. Our aim is to provide students with good quality freshly cooked food, using fresh ingredients and offering good value for money at all times.

All meals are made on-site by skilled catering staff and half-termly menus are created to include popular dishes and dishes from different cultures around the world. The menu offers both non-halal and halal days to give all families a wide choice, and the days are marked on the weekly menus. We are always looking for new ideas and students are encouraged to provide feedback through their student council representative.

The cost of food has increased in recent times and this has an impact on menu planning, but we are committed to keeping the cost of meals as low as possible and so the cost of a meal remains at £2.50.

Parents/carers make payments online via SCOPAY and all meals are pre-ordered. Further details on how this system works and how to register are available on our website, or you can speak to a member of the Finance Department.

Students who are eligible for Free School Meals automatically have their account credited each day, which is completely confidential, so other students do not know who is claiming a free school meal.

Students who prefer to bring a packed lunch are welcome to use the area dedicated to their bubble.

The canteen has recently undergone a refurbishment programme, giving it a new colour scheme and acoustic boards to reduce echo; all to create a calm and pleasant atmosphere for the students. It has also been equipped with the latest interactive TV to allow the space to be utilised as a learning space in addition to lunch provision.

We understand the importance of breakfast to start the day well and therefore will be retaining the free bagel breakfast for all next year.

Allergen awareness

In 2014, the EU  introduced new legislation in respect of food allergens awareness (EU regulation EU FIC 1169/2011) and in 2021 saw the introduction of Natasha’ Law.

The school will ensure:

  • all catering staff complete the Food Standards Agency’s Allergens Awareness Training, including Natasha’s Law
  • statutory signage which advises students of what to do if they have a query on allergens contained within food
  • all packaged food will have labels clearly identifying allergens
  • a central database of allergens which is located in the kitchen area to provide any information that may be requested

Should you wish to discuss or have any queries these can be addressed to Mrs Baldy, School Business Manager via email – mbaldy@brentford.hounslow.sch.uk
