THE COMPETITIVE EDGE WITH LANGUAGES AT BRENTFORD SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

As parents and carers, we want our children to have the best possible start in life, and that means giving them the tools and skills they need to succeed. One of the most valuable skills your child can learn is a second language.

Last Friday (12/01) was the launch of ‘Languages For All’ at Brentford School for Girls where fourteen Year 11 students attended the ‘Languages and Your Future’ careers conference at the prestigious Royal Holloway University.

Languages For All is a non-profit organisation that links schools with universities, employers and cultural institutions. The aim is to promote language study and to provide students with an enriching learning experience by linking their curriculum to careers and trips and by making language learning more relevant and engaging. The programme brings together language students from different schools in the borough of Hounslow. The vision of the Languages for All programme is an education system where no child’s access to learning foreign languages to a professional level is limited by where they live.

During the day, the students took part in a speed networking session, meeting and talking to a range of professionals about what their language skills helped them to achieve in the world of work. They then took part in a Spanish language taster session which they really enjoyed!

At Brentford School for Girls, the school is keen to promote that studying a foreign language is a highly desirable skill that can benefit their students in numerous ways. For one, it helps to improve their cognitive abilities and memory, as well as enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Learning a second language can also make the girls at the school more adaptable, flexible and open-minded. It can give them a competitive edge in the job market, too, as it is a skill that is in high demand in today’s globalised economy.

In conjunction with this promotion of foreign languages in their school, Brentford School for Girls is excited to announce that it will be offering A-level French from September 2024. This is great news for parents and students who recognise the value of studying this highly desirable language. Studying A-level French shows future employers that your child is a good communicator, hard-working, and adaptable. It also helps to demonstrate their commitment to learning and their ability to excel in a challenging academic environment.

The benefits of studying a second language are clear, and A-level French is a highly desirable skill that will give your child a competitive edge in the job market.
