Quality in Careers Standard 2023

Statement of Commitment: Brentford School for Girls are again delighted to announce their commitment to working towards re-accreditation of the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard for its Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance programme. The school achieved the Quality in Careers Standard, a nationally recognised award and one of the highest accolades a school can receive for excellence in this area, in the summer of 2023. 

The external assessor complimented the quality of the Careers programme at Brentford School for Girls, stating ‘Brentford School for Girls has a comprehensive programme of support in place for students. There is a strong whole school commitment to encouraging and supporting the girls to achieve in their learning and to explore and investigate a range of fulfilling career ideas and pathways’

There is a wide range of Careers Education related activities on offer at Brentford School for Girls such as; an annual Careers & Higher Education Fair, Careers curriculum delivered through PSHCEE lessons and Careers presentations which take place throughout the year. In addition, students have access to a fully qualified careers adviser.

Statutory careers guidance - The 8 ‘Gatsby Benchmarks’ for good careers guidance

The Gatsby Benchmarks are a set of 8 standards that research suggests define best practice in regards to careers education and guidance. The Government’s expectation, set out in the DFE Careers Strategy (‘Making the most of everyone’s skills and talents’) and the accompanying Statutory Guidance in January 2018, is that schools should be working towards the Benchmarks in order to meet them fully.
