16-19 BURSARY FUND

There are two types of bursary available at Brentford School for Girls; Discretionary Bursary and Vulnerable Student Bursary.

DISCRETIONARY BURSARY

The Discretionary Bursary is awarded to students who are eligible for free school meals and is intended to support students to participate fully in their studies, for example, help with the cost of transport, books and equipment. You will qualify for the discretionary bursary if you:

  • are eligible for free school meals
  • complete the application in full and sign the contract
  • achieve a minimum attendance target of 96%
  • comply with the BSfG behaviour and attendance policies

VULNERABLE STUDENT BURSARY

The Non-Discretionary Bursary is paid every month (up to £1,200) to students, under the age of 19 and who are:

  • young people in care
  • care leavers
  • receiving Universal Credit, Income Support or Employment Support Allowance *
  • receiving Disability Living Allowance
  • parents living independently
  • young people whose parents have died
  • unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (under the age of 18)

Bursaries are issued half-termly during the academic year, usually starting in October. The school reserves the right to withhold either or both bursary awards if students do not adhere to the eligibility criteria as set out above.

Original evidence will be required with the application form. This will be either written confirmation from your local authority of your status or a copy of your Income Support or Universal Credit award notice**.

Application forms can be from the sixth from centre and should be submitted with the required paperwork to the finance office.
