Library learning resource centre (LRC)
The main purpose of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is to assist students in obtaining material, or information which may be needed in connection with studies or recreational interests.
Apart from book collection, the LRC can offer open access to internet, a range of games, newspapers and magazines.
The School Library uses 'OLIVER' library management system and students can login as OPAC Users. This allows them to search, to access own account (current loans, renewals, over dues, reservations, alerts etc.) and to send requests and emails. Use of LRC
LRC is open between 8.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am and 3.30pm on Fridays
LRC will be closed for break on Fridays when we have our Book Club activities
Students may borrow one fiction and one non-fiction book for two weeks. Lost or unreturned books will have to be paid for in full
Reading in the LRC
All KS3 students have been enrolled on Accelerated Reading Programme
AR assists school in monitoring and managing independent reading practice. Teachers and library staff help students to select books appropriate to their interests and levels and monitor progress in vocabulary growth and literacy skills
For the second year Brentford School Library has been successful in securing funding for BOOKBUZZ Project
“Bookbuzz is a reading programme from Booktrust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure, independent choice and develop a whole school reading culture”
Arrangement of LRC
Fiction - novels, stories are arranged in alphabetical order according to author’s SURNAME
Non-fiction - information books are arranged according to subject content using Dewey Classification System. Class number on the spine of each book is a pointer to its subject matter
