Head Teacher's Welcome

It is with great pride that I welcome you to our school website and introduce you to our school. Our commitment to academic excellence and personal well-being is total. Our success lies in the close and safe community that flourishes here at Brentford and the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students. We are a small school and our students tell us that Brentford feels like a ‘big family’. In our recent Ofsted report (September 2011), the school’s care, guidance and support were identified as ‘outstanding.’

Our school is on an exciting journey. Our results show enormous improvements over the last 3 years. 95% of our girls in year 11 this year achieved 5 or more 5 A*-C passes at GCSE (58% with English and Maths), placing our school as one of the highest achieving schools for A*-C passes in the London Borough of Hounslow … a huge success! At A level, our students also achieved exceptionally well, with 45% of passes at A Level achieving A*-B grades. We have excellent links with universities and a proven track record in getting students into some of the top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

In 2011, Ofsted recognised that we are a ‘Good school with many outstanding features’. Our teaching was identified as a strength, alongside students’ behaviour and the leadership of the school. We have a stable, hardworking and committed team of staff and whilst our facilities are not brand new, there is a regular cycle of refurbishment across the school and most recently, the building of a new school theatre and full refurbishment of our library space and learning centre- The Heart.

Success and achievement at Brentford School, for us, means more than a set of qualifications. There is a strong focus on student leadership across the school with a prefect system, peer mentors, student leadership team and school council flourishing and making a full contribution to school developments. The school offers an enormous range of extracurricular activities, school trips and journeys. We run the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and students have taken part in foreign visits to Italy, Germany, France and New York. We hold the British Council International School Award and have links with schools across the globe including Africa, Japan and Sweden. The school has strong links within the local community and has many partnerships with local businesses and Arts organisations, including The National Theatre.

Our vision at Brentford School for Girls is to develop the values and skills of the ‘Brentford Girl’ within your daughter. It is a fact that girls do achieve better in a single sex setting and we believe that, at Brentford, we are able to provide that successful setting for your daughter.

I hope that our website will give you a flavour of our school community and the many outstanding achievements of our pupils.
