What is GCSE English as an Additional Language all about?

This is a non-examination course and is specifically aimed at bilingual students who have recently arrived in this country and who are developing their language proficiency in English. Practice is given across the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening but the emphasis is placed upon developing students’ literacy in the language. The module enables entry to an alternative English qualification (AQA Entry Level Certificate) for those students whose late arrival makes achievement at GCSE English difficult.
