Year 9 Options

The Year 9 options process has begun and your daughter will have the opportunity to choose the GCSE and/or BTEC courses she will pursue through Years 10 and 11. Your daughter may already have begun to think about what subjects she would like to pursue and how these fit in with her abilities, potential and wider career aspirations.

Please note that your daughter will select up to three GCSE and/or BTEC options, in addition to the compulsory course of study which includes English, Mathematics, Science, PE, PSHCE and RE. We will be supporting you and your daughter towards making the right choices with a programme of activities, including a day of activities for your daughter on Thursday 7th March.

In addition to the day of activities, subject leaders and classroom teachers will be talking to students formally and informally, explaining how their subjects are organised at Key Stage 4 and what students should expect should they pursue them to GCSE or equivalent level.

The Year 9 Options Information and Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday 7th March from 5pm. This parents’ evening will include an options presentation outlining the pathways and choices available to students and teachers will discuss your daughter’s latest set of progress data with you, which will help you and your daughter to make informed choices.

Options paperwork will be distributed at the Options Information and Parents’ Evening and this must be returned by Friday 15th March, identifying options choices. You will then be given an appointment to meet with a senior member of staff on the week beginning Monday 25th March, where your daughter’s choices will be discussed in detail. This is to ensure that your daughter has made appropriate choices that are in balance with her ability, potential and wider aspirations.

This is an extremely important time for your daughter. The more information you and your daughter have, the better able you will both be to make informed choices. Should you have any questions about your daughter’s options, please do not hesitate to contact Alan Wood, Assistant Headteacher, at school (020 8847 4281 or awood@brentford.hounslow.sch.uk).
